kate5kiwis: trash to fashion

kate5kiwis

“If you were all alone in the universe with no one to talk to, no one with which to share the beauty of the stars, to laugh with, to touch, what would be your purpose in life? It is other life, it is love, which gives your life meaning. This is harmony. We must discover the joy of each other, the joy of challenge, the joy of growth.” — Mitsugi Saotome

trash to fashion

a friend invited me
to "teach some art"

with his class this week,
the last week of
the school term.

the kids have been
studying the 1950s,
and had recently done
a unit on recycling.
perfect.
we spent three days
refashioning
recyclable materials
into wearable art,
chatting with fleur in cambodia,
and generally having a ball.
it was totally fabulous.

That sure looks like FUN!!!! Bet you have inspired some future designers there too.....

Thanks a million for your wonderful words of wisdom on my blog by the way. I have been enjoying reading about how you are doing back in the land of study. I only hope that myself and my family can cope as well as you all seem to be! XXXXX

anon - thanks for your concern. the thought did occur to me, and i nearly didn't include the photo with the visible school title on one shirt but i decided that as i have not typed any names, the students remain completely anonymous for any real stalkers. just to make sure, i googled "trash to fashion (pages from NZ)", and i lost interest in the search after the first ten pages of links that google found. then again, my sitemeter doesn't show who you are either, so maybe i should be more careful in future... I guess some of those kids could be secret agents in disguise and it might blow their cover. Just dont put those naked shots of them up there... oh I see you havent.... whew.

Those kids look like they are having a whale of a time! They've obviously picked up your enthusiasm - don't you love that whole symbiotic thing that often goes on in teaching? You inspire them and then their enthusiasm and ideas inspire you back and round and round it goes in one big wonderful whirl of creating and laughing and learning.

...and, no offense to the first anonymous commenter to this post, but that wasn't "me," whomever i may be. i was just focused on the coolness of the pictures of kids having what looks like a really wholesome blast. it's nice to see these days. love from america
