kate5kiwis: Uncle Black Beetle's

“If you were all alone in the universe with no one to talk to, no one with which to share the beauty of the stars, to laugh with, to touch, what would be your purpose in life? It is other life, it is love, which gives your life meaning. This is harmony. We must discover the joy of each other, the joy of challenge, the joy of growth.” — Mitsugi Saotome

Uncle Black Beetle's

we've found a Real Pirate's Cave in The Sunny Bay...
Uncle Black Beetle's Tea and Craft.
Well, actually, it's a huge bead stash in the front lounge of our new friend Niki's house!!!
She's the most patient, inspiring person, and not like a Pirate at all.
We had so much fun rifling through her millions and squillions of beads and sorting and arranging and counting and arranging and threading.. and just look at the finished creations:
J11's *wisdom* bracelet (he's relaxing on Niki's front porch in her hammock), with the pewter word threaded on boy-proof-elastic with black beads and pewter beads... it fits perfectly, you're such a natural at this game babe.
S10's hemalyke *cross* pendant with hemalyke beads around your neck. you spent ages on this, i'm so proud of you!
M6's *sun catcher necklace* which took ages to decide and just lookee, it's so sparkly!! and when you don't want to wear it, you can hang it in the window to refract the rays of the sun.

and on the topic of COUNTING SMALL THINGS, i am having great difficulty in explaining the world of decimals to S10, trying to explain which is bigger of 0.395 and 0.3 and 0.4
i had this idea that i'd show him visually with "Pieces of Pie" so i drew a circle and "cut" it into tenths, and (because he's a boy and thinks with his stomach) i asked him which he'd rather have: three tenths or four tenths?
to which he thought for a minute and then looked at me very seriously, and replied: it depends on which KIND of pie it is...

Super cool beady stuff.

And I never got the decimal thing very well either... I struggle a bit now with cataloguing and shelving when I'm at work with the whole dewey decimal thing... or atleast someone does as I keep finding books out of order because people think that 3.12 comes after 3.9 and not before 3.2! ARGH!
