kate5kiwis: nifty thrifty

“If you were all alone in the universe with no one to talk to, no one with which to share the beauty of the stars, to laugh with, to touch, what would be your purpose in life? It is other life, it is love, which gives your life meaning. This is harmony. We must discover the joy of each other, the joy of challenge, the joy of growth.” — Mitsugi Saotome

nifty thrifty

historically (lol) i'm a really *naff* op shopper. i spend all my time trying to dissuade M6 from taking home yet another used teddy bear and rescuing S10 from the plastic junk aisle while searching in vain for a top that doesn't make me resemble a drag queen look like it's been dragged through a bush backwards. and even if i get something home, it doesn't fit/is wrong colour/has nasty smell. but i am ecstatic to report that i think i've finally joined the cool kids on the block. i found a truckload of fabric (mostly duvets) at the op shop on saturday, as i whizzed through on a whim:
immediately snarffed by Woozie for her bed

immediately snarffed by Mousey for his bed
to be transformed into a quilt for Rnearly15

too small for my bed...
another twirly apron then?

a lovely old tablecloth and a piece of linen
(memo to self: resist taking photos in the late afternoon sun with no flash)

metres and metres of fabric for my stash.
'cept i think all that pollen is affecting my snoz,
i have hinamous hideous hayfever
and i had a shoutymama episode
and the telly is broken

so i'm off to bed with Anthony Kiedis my book.

Hey lookit you - rockin the op shop! I only found one sheet today but it is a really pretty one and I feel well pleased.

Would you like some contributions for the quilt? We could add a bit of Sth island love to it.

Nice fabric. I've been forbidden to buy any more until I use what I've already stashed. Sorry the pollen is getting to you. I'm having the same problem and it's making me miserable to live with. Love your "shoutymama" discriptor. I've definitely had too many of those episodes lately.

Aw. Bad, stupid hay fever.

Lookit all the daisies!!

Shoutmama is harmless. Sarcastic, whiney, martyr mother is evil. When she blows through, I spend a few days apologizing and being extra nice to everyone. We are all left off-balance, but the boat, she still floats.

Not only is it lovely fabric, some of it looks strangely familiar. I'll have to post a piccie of one of my latest projects and you'll see.

Fabulous finds! You are a magician with your sewing machine. I have been peeking at your aprons (with baby in arms and no free hand to type with). I love it all, you are very talented Kate.

If Mickey doesn't cure your hayfever then my opinion of the Walt Disney corporation will plummet... Mickey is far superior to Barney the dinosaur. You have taste, ma'am.

My father used to have a real thing about Toni Basil - he denied it of course - but whenever she was on TV his eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. She didn't cure his hayfever though - he still has that!
