kate5kiwis: stretchy dollar cheer, er chair...

“If you were all alone in the universe with no one to talk to, no one with which to share the beauty of the stars, to laugh with, to touch, what would be your purpose in life? It is other life, it is love, which gives your life meaning. This is harmony. We must discover the joy of each other, the joy of challenge, the joy of growth.” — Mitsugi Saotome

stretchy dollar cheer, er chair...

one of the things about having an unconventional family size is that furniture sets usually come in fours or sixes. hardly enough. our dining room table and chairs set was very generous when we got it, i think we had two little kids and a baby, and we had to squeeze it into our dining area. but we've totally outgrown it now: it has only six chairs (which i have since reupholstered), and now we have a bigger dining area... i have been thinking that we might upgrade to a bench seat on one side.. but haven't found one for a price we wanna afford.
imagine my joy when i found this wonderful chair yesterday for the grand price of $5 from a friend's pre-garage-sale-sale (got that??).
it doesn't quite match the others... but who cares?? it reminds me of my uncle lew and auntie kaye's chairs they had at kitenui avenue when i was a kid, and that *stretchy dollar* phrase is uncle lew's too...
so when summer ends (in the l-o-n-g d-i-s-t-a-n-t f-u-t-u-r-e) and we no longer eat outside, we'll all be able to snuggle around the inside table for dinner and laughs and sharing of hearts. i'm really excited about that.

Nothing better than a good bargain, is there? Good going! BTW, it is still Monday here, a little bit after 6 o'clock. So what's going to happen on Tuesday, lol? :)

Comfy chair, and a good bargain - can't beat that!

That is exactly like our chairs! We have ten--can you believe that? I bought them unfinished and finished them years ago--they're really sturdy! Congrats on your find!

When does summer end? We're obviously on a completely opposite schedule here in the US.

We have the chair problem too. :P
I dont know where to find a bench but my parents have considered it.
and our dining room is tiny.
When joshua is old enough to sit on a chair our family will have outgrown our table!

barb and liesl yeah, it's a bit boggling on the brain, all this time-difference stuff, but i do love being future-girl.

chewymom chairs: i love it that you have so many. whenever friends come over we have extra people spilling out at the breakfast bar and outside on the patio... we *have* managed to cram eleven chairs around our six-seater patio table: i *love* it when we can all eyeball each other at the table...
summer: it never ends. well, i wish. i find july/august difficult to deal with most years. june's ok, it's my (and R13's birthday month) but july and aug are cold and wet, and the beach is less appealing. our autumn officially begins the month your spring begins, but april and may are usually hot and sunny and dry here. and the trees are all golden and red.

emily yeah, see that's why i'm so excited cos M5 has outgrown the special chair my dad made 14 years ago so that two-three-four year olds could reach their plate at the table...
maybe *you* could make a bench from some wood that's sitting under a neighbour's house or something?? (ask first LOL)

We are always looking for more chairs when the whole family is over for dinner. With all the inlaws and kids now, we have started having a 'kids' table. As for us, we are shopping for a larger kitchen table for the fall, need more room if we are going to add more kids.

C'est un solde grand!

It is always exciting to find a great deal that fits you needs so precisely.

I cringe at the thought of re-upholstering dinette chairs. I have six that each week grow more and more in need of it and I have no clue where to begin.

Too bad we didn't know you were looking for benches! Mr Bear keeps saying we need to upsize (remember that day we squeezed 20-odd EARWIGS kiddos round our table? well there was novelty in it that day, but the novelty of squeezing 11 of us *including adults* each night is wearing a bit thin!).
We've got two benches we couldn't really bear to part with coz they came from good friends - but we just *might* have been persuaded to send them to MoreGoodFriends.
