the price of fish
i don't buy fish often, we used to get it ourselves for *free* as a kid, and so i object to spending money on it, except for a pack of *smoked salmon* to partner the avocado every so often when we make sushi.
but have you other Kiwi Chicks noticed a massive hike in *food prices* of late here in NZ?? especially fruit??? oh, and dairy... and petrol.
or maybe it's happening All Around The Globe???
in my head we spend about $NZ 300 a week on food, give or take... and we don't eat much fillet steak either. 'twill be interesting to see what the food bill pans out to be now that D18 is eating elsewhere. except that i have already started posting up the "care parcels" lol.
so i am most ecstatic to see this view all over our back fence:
*free fruit*delish, honey-smelling sunshiney grapes.
prescribed dosage: *one* bunch a day, or the consequences could be rather dramatic.

Grrr... don't get me started on the price of dairy. I buy food almost daily for school and I recently received a flyer from my biggest supplier that forecasts a 40% rise in the price of almost EVERYTHING this year. I was just gobsmacked. I wish we were still living in the country. I don't even have a vegie garden here. Those grapes look good...

In my head we spend a lot less than the credit card tells me!
I work for a dairy company & know what the iternational prices are - but still think we are being ripped due to a lack of competition! We all need house cows :-)
We also got a letter from the bank informing us of the loverly (NOT) interest rate on the floating portion of our mortgage! 10.5% - I don't get how they justify the increase given that Mr Bollard hasn't changed the OCR for ages - but there is a reason I didn't do well at Economics at Uni!

only free fish round here - on the we're-defishing-the-oceans-bandwagon....but I can still cope with a rod-caught specimen, even if it does happen to be the very last fish in the ocean;-) (actually, I don't think we're at that stage yet)
I went to buy a cauliflower today......$4.50. We'll just wait three weeks for the ones in my garden to ripen thankyouverymuch.
We don't even call cheese cheese anymore. And we think carefully before grating gold on our dinner.
Food prices are up in the states, too. Gas (petrol) in CA is crazy, and produce/dairy, etc also...
I think the whole world is experiencing the huge raise in food prices. The grapes look soooo cool and refreshing.
We have purple grapes here.
I'm not commenting on the food prices, bad karma. If I do, next life I will come back as a starving third worlder. xxxx

I wish I were a gardener-person. Plants shrivel up and die when I come near. We have deer that will jump a fence to eat garden goodies.
