yesterday we watched, breathless, as Charlie held an audience of a hundred completely spellbound during his piano recital at the end of year piano/violin performance. we found his first 'real' piano teacher this year, and she is unbelievably intuitive: she introduced him to Ludovico Einaudi, who is, i think, a kindred spirit.
the music of composer/pianist Ludovico Einaudi has been described as minimalist, classical, ambient, contemporary and deeply touching - the welcome sound of stillness in a hectic world.
unfortunately i forgot to take the camera to the 'real' performance. this is a reenactment on the school piano this afternoon. Charlie said that yesterday's piano was "so friendly to play" but still, he gets completely lost in the music about half way through: it's magical. here he is, playing Ludovico Einaudi's Primavera (Spring)... and yes, the entire five minutes is played from memory:

My son plays that piece too and I LOVE it. I think it is a boy's piece.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely fantastically beautiful.
I love watching their faces when they play the piano and get lost in the music - it is just so perfect somehow.
Thought you might enjoy Alpine Stream and Sarajevo Station, two minimalist piano pieces from the album Train Tracks and Travelogues Vol.1- http://tinyurl.com/mtkpfw

Charlie just started my day off beautifully! I feel GOOD now!
ReplyDeleteCharlie's playing is so beautiful and he has a lovely, sensitive touch. Thank you so much for sharing this and introducing me to Einaudi's music. I had to get it for myself straight away and am loving playing it. My daughter, Charli, loves listening to it too - and my Mum, all the way over in the UK, has just e-mailed me this morning to say how much she enjoyed watching Charlie play whilst she watching snow falling outside her window (I've popped a link on my blog to you as I really have been inspired - thank you so much!) x Sarah x
